Governor Abbott Names Williams Chair, Appoints Lewis, Cardenas To Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board Of Directors

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Lemuel Williams, Jr. as the new chair of the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board of Directors. Along with this appointment, the governor has also named David Lewis and reappointed Valerie Vargas Cardenas to the board for terms set to expire on February 1, 2031.

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board is responsible for overseeing the provision of affordable housing for low-income Texans. With these new appointments, the board is expected to continue its efforts in providing accessible housing options for those in need.

Lemuel Williams, Jr., a resident of Austin, brings a wealth of experience to his new role as chair. He currently serves as the senior director of technology alliances for Atos IT Solutions and Services, Inc. In addition, he holds positions as vice-chair of the Board of Directors at Amplify Credit Union and chair of the loan committee.

Williams' previous experience includes serving as an executive board member of the Future Forum at the LBJ Presidential Library and being an appointee on the City of Austin Technology and Telecommunications Commission. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Information Systems from The University of Texas (UT) at Austin.

Joining Williams on the board is David Lewis from Austin. Lewis is currently the president and managing member of Montlake Capital Management, LLC. He has previously held positions as director and president of the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Society of Dallas–Fort Worth and director and vice president of the Seattle CFA Society.

Lewis also serves as a representative to the CFA Institute for the Central and Southwest U.S. Region and advocacy chair for CFA Societies Texas. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from UT Austin and his Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.

Valerie Vargas Cardenas from San Juan has been reappointed to her position on the board by Governor Abbott. She currently serves as the executive vice president of Mortgage Banking operations for Texas National Bank. In addition, she holds positions as chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of San Juan and is a member of the Hidalgo County Prosperity Task Force Housing Committee.

Cardenas is also a member of the Rio Grande Valley Builders Association and the Greater McAllen Association of REALTORS. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from St. Edward's University.

With these new appointments, Governor Abbott has shown his commitment to providing affordable housing options for low-income Texans. The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board will continue to work towards this goal under the leadership of Lemuel Williams, Jr., David Lewis, and Valerie Vargas Cardenas. Their terms are set to expire on February 1, 2031.
