~ Governor Greg Abbott has recognized the City of Alvin for its commitment to developing tourism as an economic growth strategy. The city has been designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas, after completing a rigorous certification process.
This designation is a testament to the efforts of Visit Alvin, the city's official tourism organization, in promoting Alvin as a must-visit destination. It also highlights the city's potential to attract visitors from across the nation and around the world.
In a statement, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of tourism to both local and state economies. He noted that travelers to and within Texas generate almost $200 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. He congratulated Alvin and encouraged other communities in Texas to apply for this certification to further grow their local tourism industry.
Senator Mayes Middleton also praised Alvin's designation, calling it a testament to the city's rapid growth and its rich history and culture. He expressed his confidence that Alvin will continue to thrive as a tourism and economic powerhouse in Texas.
