Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas State University System Board Of Regents

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed John "Johnny" Weisman and reappointed Charlie Amato and Bill Scott to the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents. Their terms are set to expire on February 1, 2031.
Weisman, a resident of New Braunfels, is the owner and president of Hunter Industries. He brings a wealth of experience to the board, having served as a member and former president of the Associated General Contractors of Texas Highway, Heavy, Utilities, and Industrial Branch. He is also a member of the Texas Asphalt and Pavement Association.
Aside from his professional achievements, Weisman is also actively involved in his community. He volunteers with organizations such as the Comal County Junior Livestock and Youth Show, Communities in Schools of South-Central Texas, and the New Braunfels Independent School District Education Foundation. He also served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War and received an Honorable Discharge. Weisman holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas State University.

Joining Weisman on the TSUS Board of Regents is Charlie Amato from San Antonio. Amato is the co-founder and chairman of Southwest Business Corporation. He currently serves as chairman of the Texas State University System Foundation and sits on various boards including Alamo Trust Inc., Remember the Alamo Foundation, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care Corporation Board of Directors, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation, Spurs Give, Prosperity Bank, among others.
Amato has an impressive track record in leadership roles. He was previously chairman of the Texas Business Leadership Council and served as a board member for Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – San Antonio branch. He was also past chairman for University of Incarnate Word Board Trustees and Advisory Council at Sam Houston State University College of Business. Additionally, he was past chairman for Texas Business Hall of Fame and national director for Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Amato holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.

The third appointee, Bill Scott, hails from Nederland and is the chairman and CEO of Trans-Global Solutions, Inc. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the board as he currently serves as chairman of the TSUS Planning and Construction Committee. Scott is also president of the Gay D. and William F. Scott Family Foundation and has held leadership positions in various organizations such as Three Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America, Jefferson and Orange County Board of Pilot Commissioners, Texas Energy Museum, Foundation for Southeast Texas, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Symphony of Southeast Texas, and Lamar University Campaign Cabinet.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Government from Lamar University.
