Governor Abbott Appoints Six To Texas Agriculture Finance Authority

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently made appointments to the Texas Agriculture Finance Authority, selecting six individuals to serve on the board. Nelda Barrera, Colby McClendon, and Scott Frazier have been appointed for terms set to expire on January 1, 2027. Additionally, Zachary Davis, Justin Tucker, and Tommy Henderson will serve on the authority until January 1, 2028.
The Texas Agriculture Finance Authority was created with the purpose of providing financial assistance for the expansion, development, and diversification of production, processing, marketing, and export of Texas agricultural products. These appointments are crucial in ensuring the success of this mission.
Nelda Barrera of McAllen brings a wealth of experience to the board. She is a retired field representative for the Texas Department of Agriculture and currently serves as a board member for both the Hidalgo County Farm Bureau and the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show. In addition to her involvement in agriculture organizations, Barrera also serves as an event coordinator and fundraising chair for the South Texas Cattlemen's Round Up. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and a master's degree in agriculture science/horticulture from Texas A&M University (TAMU) – Kingsville.

Colby McClendon is a farmer and owner of McClendon Farms in Lavon. He is also actively involved in various agricultural organizations such as serving as a board member for Bear Creek Special Utility District and Texas Farm Bureau Collin County. McClendon is also a member of the LA3 Regional Committee for the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency and Texas Wheat Producers.
Scott Frazier from Chapman Ranch brings his expertise as partner and manager of Scott and Kacy Frazier Farms, Frazier Ag Service, and Thunder Cattle Company to the board. He currently serves as president of Nueces County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and is a board member of the National Sorghum Producers. Frazier is also a member of the London Independent School District Board of Trustees. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from TAMU.
Zachary Davis, a county extension agent for Texas A&M AgriLife in Denton County, has also been appointed to the board. Davis is district director for the Texas County Agriculture Agents Association and a member of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. He is also actively involved in his community as president of the Greenwood/Slidell Buyers Association and serves on the boards for Texas Farm Bureau and Wise County Youth Fair. Davis holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Leadership and Development from TAMU and a Master of Agriculture Science from TAMU – Kingsville.

Justin Tucker, senior vice president and agriculture and commercial lender at First National Bank of Bastrop at Falls County Branch, brings his financial expertise to the board. Tucker holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and an Executive Master of Business Administration in Banking and Financial Institutions from SHSU. He is also an alum of the Southwest Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business.
Tommy Henderson, a farmer and rancher from Byers, rounds out the appointments to the Texas Agriculture Finance Authority. Henderson serves as director for Clay County Farm Bureau Board and was previously a member of the Texas Oklahoma Boundary Commission. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from TAMU.
