Governor Abbott Announces Over $8.3 Million In Grants To Central Texas Veteran Service Organizations

~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced that a total of $8,367,000 in Funds for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 35 organizations in the Central Texas region. This funding is part of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour and will provide services to an estimated 4,790 local veterans.

According to Governor Abbott, "Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great land, and every veteran deserves the opportunity to build a fulfilling life after service." He also added that Texas will always support the brave men and women who have served our state and nation.

Shawn Deabay, TVC Deputy Executive Director and Army veteran, expressed his gratitude towards the organizations in Central Texas that work tirelessly to support veterans and their families. He stated that these grants will help strengthen their efforts and it is heartwarming to see the community giving back to those who have served.

The FVA grant recipients include A Sanctuary for Military Families which received $211,000 for Non-Clinical Mental Health services. Austin Dog Alliance was awarded $350,000 for their Service Dog Program while Austin Habitat for Humanity received $100,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes.

Baylor Research Institute was granted a total of $600,000 with $400,000 allocated for Clinical Counseling and $200,000 for Family & Child Support Services. Bell County received a total of $540,000 with $400,000 designated for Financial Assistance and $140,000 for Veterans Treatment Court.

Other recipients include Blanco River Regional Recovery Team which received $198,000 for Financial Assistance; Bluebonnet Trails Community MHMR Center which was granted $45,000 for Non-Clinical Mental Health services; Brazos Valley Community Action Programs which received $56,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes; Bring Everyone in the Zone which was awarded $100,000 for Financial Assistance; Burnet County which received $105,000 for Transportation Services; and Caldwell County which was granted $100,000 for Financial Assistance.

Caritas of Austin received a total of $154,000 with $38,000 for Clinical Counseling and $116,000 for Financial Assistance. Caritas of Waco was awarded $175,000 for Financial Assistance while Catholic Charities of Central Texas received $275,000 for the same purpose.

Cove House Emergency Homeless Shelter was granted $250,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes while the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation received a total of $400,000 for Financial Assistance. Fort Hood Area Habitat for Humanity was awarded $250,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes.

Goodwill Industries of Central Texas received $200,000 for Financial Assistance while Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County was granted $170,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes. Hays County received a total of $515,000 with $315,000 designated for Financial Assistance and $200,000 allocated to Veterans Treatment Court.

Heart of Texas Region MHMR Center was granted $120,000 for Clinical Counseling while Heroes Night Out received a total of $165,000 in Financial Assistance. Hill Country Community Action Association was awarded $150,000 Food Meal Services and McLennan County received a grant of $100,000 towards their Veterans Treatment Court.

Other recipients include National Guard Association of Texas which received a total of $250,00 in Financial Assistance; ROCK Ride on Center For Kids which was granted 1830$0 in Clinical Counseling; Samaritan Center For Counseling and Pastoral Care which received a grant worth 400$0$0 in Clinical Counseling; Semper Fi & America's Fund which was awarded 300$0$0 in Financial Assistance; and the Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation which also received 300$0$0 in Financial Assistance.

The Salvation Army – Waco was granted 250$0$0 for Financial Assistance while Travis County received 50,000$0 for their Veterans Treatment Court. USA Cares was awarded 250,000$0 in Financial Assistance and Waco Habitat for Humanity received 200,000$0 for Housing for Texas Heroes.

Williamson County received a total of $660,000 with $300,000 designated for Financial Assistance and $360,000 allocated to Veterans Treatment Court. Lastly, YMCA of Central Texas was granted $45,000 for Family & Child Support Services.

In May, TVC Commissioners approved a total of 190 grants worth more than $40.8 million to 160 organizations across Texas. These grants are expected to provide direct services to over 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses throughout the state.

Since 2009 through the current 2026-2027 grant cycle, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants. These grants support a wide range of services including emergency financial assistance, transportation services, legal aid, family support services, home modification assistance and rental/mortgage assistance.
