Governor Abbott Adds Counties To Texas Disaster Declaration For Winter Storm

~ Governor Greg Abbott has taken further action to address the ongoing winter storm in Texas by amending the state's disaster declaration to include 85 additional counties. This brings the total number of counties included in the declaration to 219.

In a statement, Governor Abbott acknowledged the impact of the winter weather on communities across the state and emphasized the importance of staying informed and safe. He also expressed gratitude for the tireless efforts of emergency management officials who are working around the clock to assist Texans during this challenging time.

The State of Texas has mobilized over 10,900 state responders, more than 4,900 vehicles and pieces of equipment, and more than 15 state agencies to respond to this winter weather threat. The Texas State Emergency Operations Center is operating 24/7 to support local officials with requests for state assistance.

At Governor Abbott's direction, various state agencies are actively engaged in providing resources and support for local winter weather response operations. These include:

- The Texas Department of Transportation, which is treating roadways with winter weather equipment and crews, as well as assisting with traffic control and road closures.

- The Texas Division of Emergency Management, which has deployed an Incident Management Team and All-Hazards Winter Weather Group responders to support emergency response resources across the state. They are also working with local partners to update maps of warming centers.

- The Texas National Guard, which has deployed Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters, high-profile vehicles, and personnel to assist stranded motorists and deliver supplies.

- The Texas A&M Forest Service (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System), which has sent All-Hazard Strike Teams consisting of firefighters, engines, and equipment such as motor graders to help clear snow/ice. They also have saw crews on standby.

- The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, which has Disaster Assessment and Recovery Agents available to support agricultural and livestock needs.
