Georgia: Gov. Kemp: Korean Magnet Facility to Create More than 500 Jobs in Columbus

ATLANTA ~ In a move that will bring economic growth and job opportunities to Georgia, Governor Brian P. Kemp announced today that JS Link America Inc., a subsidiary of Korean biotechnology company JS Link, will be investing approximately $223 million to establish a new rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing facility in Columbus. This new facility is expected to create over 520 new jobs in Muscogee County.

Governor Kemp expressed his excitement for the continued growth of manufacturing in west Georgia and congratulated Columbus-Muscogee County for securing this opportunity. He also highlighted the importance of JS Link America's presence in securing the U.S. supply chain in industries such as aerospace, mobility, and energy.

JS Link was founded in 2000 and has since expanded its business to include the production of permanent magnets, which are crucial components used in various industries such as automobiles, wind turbines, elevators, home appliances, medical equipment, robotics, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), data centers, and consumer electronics. The company is currently completing a similar facility in Yesan, Korea with an expected pilot production run in September and an annual capacity of 1,000 tons.

Mr. Jun Y. Lee, CEO of JS Link America Inc., praised Georgia's pro-business approach and the support from the state's economic development team, local community leaders in Columbus, and Georgia Power since day one. He also noted that Georgia's universities with their engineering programs provide a ready-made labor force for JS Link America.

The new manufacturing facility will be located at the Muscogee Technology Park in Columbus and is predicted to have an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons within its 130,000-square-foot space. Operations are set to begin in late 2027 and the company will be hiring for various roles including engineering, production, construction, administration, and management. Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson expressed his excitement for JS Link America's arrival in the city, stating that the high-quality career paths offered by the company will not only benefit the workforce in Columbus but also the entire region. He also highlighted the commitment of Columbus to prepare a skilled workforce for today's and tomorrow's high-tech environment through partnerships with Muscogee County School District, Columbus Technical College, and Columbus State University.

Chairman Selvin Hollingsworth of the Development Authority of Columbus, Georgia also welcomed JS Link America to their corporate community and emphasized the significant impact this location will have on the regional economy. He expressed his eagerness to assist the company in establishing and growing their U.S. presence in Columbus.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) Global Commerce team, represented by Senior Project Manager Jacob Lee, worked closely with partners such as Development Authority of Columbus, Georgia Quick Start, and Georgia Power to secure this competitive project. GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson highlighted the importance of developing permanent magnet technology in the United States for national security and economic resilience. He also expressed pride in JS Link America's decision to choose Georgia for its first U.S. manufacturing facility.
