ATLANTA ~ Georgia's Net Tax Collections Show Slight Decrease in February
In the state of Georgia, net tax collections for the month of February totaled $2.12 billion, marking a decrease of $2.4 million or 0.1% compared to the same period in 2025 when net tax collections reached $2.13 billion.
According to the latest report from the Georgia Department of Revenue, year-to-date net tax revenue collections through eight months have totaled approximately $21.88 billion, showing an increase of $343.2 million or 1.6% compared to FY 2025 when net tax collections amounted to $21.53 billion.
The decrease in net tax revenue for February can be attributed to changes within various tax categories, as reported by the department.
Individual Income Tax collections for the month totaled $967.5 million, showing a decrease of $41.9 million or 4.1% compared to last year when net individual tax revenue amounted to $1.01 billion.

The department noted that several components contributed to this decrease including a rise in individual income tax refunds issued (net of voided checks) by $50.2 million or 12.5%, an increase in income tax withholding payments by $10.8 million or 0.8%, and a decline in individual income tax return payments by $0.6 million or 1.4%. Additionally, all other individual tax categories, including estimated tax payments, saw a combined decrease of $1.9 million.
On the other hand, gross sales and use tax collections for February totaled $1.49 billion, showing an increase of $42.5 million or 2.9% over FY 2025 while net sales and use tax increased by $44.6 million or 6.5% compared to last year when it amounted to $682.8 million.
The adjusted sales tax distribution to local governments also saw a slight increase of $5.2 million or 0.7%, while sales tax refunds declined by $7.3 million.

Corporate income tax collections for February showed a significant decrease of almost $17 million or 22.8% compared to FY 2025 when net corporate tax revenues totaled $74.4 million for the month.
The department reported that this decrease can be attributed to a decline in corporate tax refunds issued (net of voided checks) by $5.8 million or 27.4%, a decrease in corporate income tax return payments by $17.8 million or 53.6%, and a combined decrease of $5 million in all other corporate tax payments, including estimated payments.
Motor fuel tax collections, on the other hand, saw an increase of $6.2 million or 3.5% from last year when it amounted to $180.4 million in February of FY 2025.
Lastly, motor vehicle tag and title fee collections decreased by nearly $0.5 million or 1.1%, while title ad valorem tax (TAVT) collections decreased by $2.4 million or 3%.
Overall, while there was a slight decrease in net tax collections for the month of February, year-to-date numbers show an overall increase compared to the previous fiscal year. The Georgia Department of Revenue will continue to monitor and report on the state's tax revenue collection trends as the fiscal year progresses.
