Farmers' Market, Parade, Pools and Music Highlight Bloomington's Fourth of July Weekend

~ Bloomington, IN- As Independence Day approaches, the city of Bloomington is gearing up for a weekend full of community traditions and festivities. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a variety of activities including outdoor recreation, local food, live music, and family-friendly events. Best of all, most of these activities are free and open to the public.
The celebrations will kick off on July 4th at the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market located outside Bloomington City Hall. From 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., attendees can peruse locally grown produce, meats, flowers, and baked goods while enjoying food from local vendors and live music by talented local performers.
At 9 a.m., the annual Fourth of July Parade will begin at the corner of 10th Street and College Avenue. The parade will travel south on College Avenue, east on Kirkwood Avenue, and north on Walnut Street before ending at the intersection of 10th Street and Walnut Street. Following the parade, the Bloomington Community Band will take center stage at the Monroe County Courthouse at 10 a.m.

However, in case of extreme weather conditions that may pose a safety risk, both the band performance and parade may be delayed or cancelled. For updates on any schedule changes, individuals can call 812-349-3754.
To accommodate these events, certain streets including Morton Street, College Avenue, Walnut Street, and portions of Kirkwood Avenue will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on July 4th for parade staging and operations. Additionally, surface parking lots surrounding the Market will be used for parade staging and will not be available for Market customer parking. Visitors can still access the Market from Rogers Street or via foot or bicycle using the B-Line Trail.
For those driving into town for the celebrations, street parking as well as parking in designated garages will be free on July 4th. These include the Morton Street Garage, Fourth Street Garage, and Trades District Garage. Accessible parking for the Farmers' Market can be found on the west side of City Hall in the parking area north of the Market. Directional signage will be posted to guide visitors to accessible parking and market entrances.

Aside from the parade and market, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the Fourth of July weekend in Bloomington. Cool off after the parade with Open Swim Day at Bryan Park Pool or Mills Pool from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., or head over to the Community Foundation Switchyard Plaza Spray Pad at Switchyard Park for some free water play from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, individuals can call the Splash & Skate Hotline at 812-349-3741 to check if Bryan Park Pool, Mills Pool, and the Community Foundation Switchyard Plaza Spray Pad are open.
For those looking for more outdoor activities, Griffy Lake offers boat rentals and hiking trails while Cascades Golf Course is open for a round of golf. Fitness enthusiasts can also visit Twin Lakes Recreation Center for a workout on July 4th.
The celebrations don't have to end on July 4th either. On July 5th, Bryan Park will host back-to-back musical performances by Big Dog and the Jason Wells Band starting at 5:30 p.m. Attendees can bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of live music in the park.
With so many opportunities to celebrate Independence Day close to home, Bloomington residents and visitors are sure to have a memorable holiday weekend filled with community spirit and fun activities.
