Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is promoting outdoor exploration and physical activity through a new mobile gaming platform called Agents of Discovery. This free educational app encourages residents, especially youth, to engage with their local parks in an interactive and innovative way.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for the app, stating that it combines movement with technology while also fostering knowledge of the city and strengthening community connections. The platform uses augmented reality to provide a fun and engaging experience for users to learn about select Long Beach parks. It is available in English and Spanish and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Agents of Discovery aims to increase access to educational and recreational opportunities in local parks through innovative technologies. Users can participate in interactive themed missions, compete in challenges, and earn rewards. The platform is customizable and designed to accommodate different learning styles and paces, making it suitable for people of all ages.

Currently, there are five missions available for community members to participate in. In honor of Black History Month, February's challenge takes place at Martin Luther King Jr. Park until February 28th. Other missions include exploring the wetlands environment at DeForest Park until 2026, learning about local wildlife at Willow Springs Park until 2026, discovering El Dorado Regional Park through October, and celebrating Smokey the Bear's 81st birthday at El Dorado Park West until August 2026.
The introduction of the Agents of Discovery app aligns with PRM's Parks Make Long Beach Strategic Plan objective to increase youth participation in physical activities like sports and recreation. By combining movement with technology, this app introduces youth to new opportunities that promote physical activity.
Residents are encouraged to visit LBParks.org to discover PRM's full lineup of parks, facilities, programs, and services available for the Long Beach community. With Agents of Discovery as a new addition, there are now even more ways to explore and engage with the city's beautiful parks.
