Rezul News/10681526
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 1, 2024 ~ As the Carolinas continue to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, Duke Energy's dedicated team of lineworkers, tree trimmers, and state department of transportation workers are working tirelessly to restore power to affected customers. The historic damage caused by the hurricane has left hundreds of thousands without electricity, but Duke Energy is committed to restoring power as quickly and safely as possible.
According to Jason Hollifield, Duke Energy storm director for the Carolinas, the extent of the destruction in the region is unprecedented. He expressed gratitude for the support and assistance from local and state government partners in gaining access to hard-hit areas so that repairs can be made.
The latest update from Duke Energy at 4 p.m. shows significant progress in power restoration efforts. In South Carolina, 566,000 customer outages have been restored, leaving 363,000 customers in the upstate still without power. In North Carolina, 1 million customer outages have been restored with 284,000 customers in the mountain region still waiting for their electricity to be restored.
Overall, Duke Energy has successfully restored nearly 1.6 million customer outages in the Carolinas since Helene hit. The company expects to restore a majority of the remaining 648,000 customer outages by Friday night. However, some areas may experience longer wait times due to inaccessibility or severe damage to infrastructure.
