Columbia/Boone County WIC Program assists eligible women, infants and children

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services WIC Program has been providing essential services to its participants since its inception. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program offers supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and community resources.

Individuals who are interested in applying for the WIC Program can do so by contacting 573.874.7384 or by visiting the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services office at 1005 W. Worley St., Columbia, MO 65203. To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet certain criteria including being a pregnant person, a breastfeeding person who has had a baby in the last 12 months, a non-breastfeeding person who has had a baby in the last six months, an infant or a child up to the fifth birthday.

In addition to residency in Missouri, applicants must also meet the income eligibility scale which states that their gross annual household income cannot exceed 185% of the Federal poverty income guidelines. Furthermore, they must have an identified nutritional risk as determined by a health professional. This may include issues such as anemia, poor growth, previous poor pregnancy outcome, inadequate dietary intake, and other nutrition-related health problems.

The WIC Program at Columbia/Boone County currently serves over 20,000 individuals per year and is proud to be recognized as a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic.
