Columbia: Update on Route K and Old Plank Road Roundabout Construction
Rezul News/10722083
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The City of Columbia Public Works department and contractor Sam Gaines Construction have faced delays due to inclement weather during the third phase of the roundabout project at West Route K and West Old Plank Road.
According to a press release issued by the city on November 4, phase three was originally scheduled to be completed by December 5, weather permitting. However, heavy rain in November and snow in early December have pushed back the expected completion date to Friday, December 26.
Phase three involves work on the southeast corner of the roundabout and has resulted in the closure of Route K to through traffic at the construction site. Eastbound traffic on Route K is being detoured north on South Sinclair Road and then east on West Southampton Drive from the roundabout at Route K and South Sinclair Road. This detour will remain in place until phase three is completed.

Once phase three is finished, Route K will reopen for through traffic using the completed portion of the roundabout. However, this will only be temporary as phase four, the final stage of construction, is set to begin on Monday, December 29. During this phase, West Old Plank Road will be closed at the construction site. It is expected to continue through the end of January, weather permitting. More information about detours for this phase will be provided in a future release.
Drivers are reminded to exercise caution while driving through the work zone, follow posted detours, and remain alert for workers and equipment. Slowing down and staying attentive not only protects construction crews but also other travelers on the road.
The City of Columbia Public Works department and Sam Gaines Construction are working diligently to complete this project as quickly as possible despite weather setbacks. Updates will continue to be provided as progress is made towards completing this important infrastructure improvement for Columbia residents.
