Columbia: Interested parties meeting for Old Plank Road culvert project to be held at Gentry Middle School, Nov. 13
Rezul News/10719746
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ The City of Columbia Public Works department has announced an upcoming open house meeting to discuss the Old Plank Road culvert replacement project. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 13th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Gentry Middle School's Media Center located at 4200 Bethel St.
The purpose of the meeting is to present the preliminary design for the replacement of the culvert on Old Plank Road, just south of Forum Boulevard. The current structure, which was built in 1986, consists of three 66-inch corrugated metal pipes with an asphalt roadway above. However, over time, the culverts have deteriorated significantly with approximately 90% of the metal at the bottom rusted through. This has caused a loss of essential bedding material beneath the pipes. To address these issues, the project will remove the existing culverts and replace them with a single opening arch structure.
Construction for this project is expected to begin in fall 2026. In preparation for the meeting, an invitation letter was sent out to nearby residents in late October. However, it was later discovered that the date on the letter was incorrect. As a result, a new letter with the correct date will be mailed out today and emails and phone calls will also be made to those who received the first letter to ensure they have accurate information.
