Columbia: CoMo to Zero survey closing Feb. 13; public invited to meeting on traffic safety plan update Feb. 25

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Launches CoMo to Zero Initiative for Safer Streets

The City of Columbia has recently launched a new initiative, CoMo to Zero, with the goal of creating a future free from roadway deaths or serious injuries. This initiative aims to make the streets of Columbia safer for everyone who travels through the city.

As part of this effort, the City is updating its Vision Zero Action Plan by utilizing data analysis and gathering public input. The updated plan will focus on implementing safer roadway designs, reducing speeds, promoting safer vehicles and people, and improving post-crash care. This aligns with the Safe System Approach and aims to create a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan that is consistent with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program.

To gather community input, a public survey has been launched on the CoMo to Zero Action Plan BeHeardCoMo page. Residents are encouraged to take the survey and use an interactive map to mark locations where they feel unsafe while walking, biking, driving or using a mobility device. The survey will close at the end of next week on Friday, Feb. 13.

In addition to the online survey, there will also be a public meeting held on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC). The meeting will run from 4-6 p.m. and will provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the CoMo to Zero Action Plan update and share their feedback in person. There will be no formal presentation during this event, allowing attendees to visit at any time during the two-hour window.

The input gathered from both the online survey and public meeting will play a crucial role in shaping strategies that aim to make Columbia's streets safer for all road users. The City hopes that by involving community members in this process, they can create a comprehensive plan that truly reflects their needs and concerns.

Residents are encouraged to take part in this important initiative and help make Columbia a safer place for everyone.
