Rezul News/10739744
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The City of Columbia has recently launched a new website, OneForSafety.org, in an effort to provide residents with accurate and factual information about Proposition 1. This proposition will be appearing on the ballot on August 4th, 2026.

Proposition 1 is a proposal that asks voters to approve a dedicated 1% sales and use tax for public safety. If passed, this tax would be used exclusively for the operations and capital improvements of the Columbia Police and Columbia Fire departments.

According to City Manager De'Carlon Seewood, "Public safety is one of the most important services the City provides, and residents deserve clear information about any proposal that could affect those services." He further explains that the website was created as a resource for voters to learn more about Proposition 1 and make an informed decision on August 4th.

The newly launched website provides detailed information on how the proposed tax would work if approved by voters. It includes data on Columbia's population growth, police and fire staffing, emergency response considerations, community survey results, sales tax comparisons, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Additionally, the site outlines a multi-year implementation plan that shows how the tax proceeds would be invested over time. The plan prioritizes recruitment and retention of police officers and firefighters, upgrades in technology and equipment, as well as new construction and renovation of existing public safety facilities.
