Colorado's Population Exceeds 6 Million for First Time
Rezul News/10726205
DENVER ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado celebrated the news that the state's population has reached and exceeded 6 million for the first time ever. According to the Census Bureau's vintage population estimates, Colorado's population reached 6,012,561 by July 1, 2025. This represents a .92% year-over-year increase from the previously published estimates for July 1, 2024.
Governor Polis expressed his excitement about this milestone and credited it to Colorado being "the best place to live, work, play, start a family, and grow a business." He also noted that despite national trends of declining populations in some states, Colorado continues to see growth. The governor attributed this growth to the state's focus on investing in communities by breaking down barriers to housing, expanding workforce and job opportunities, and investing in families and schools.
"The numbers don't lie," Governor Polis stated. "More Coloradans means a stronger economy, more business ventures, and fresh ideas for our great state." He also expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming even more people to Colorado as the year progresses.

While acknowledging that growth can bring challenges such as rising housing prices, Governor Polis assured that the state is taking effective actions to make it easier to build new homes while keeping rents and home prices stable. He emphasized his commitment to making Colorado the best place for working individuals and families by expanding affordable housing options and creating more opportunities for workforce development.
The governor also highlighted other initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in Colorado. These include increasing access and affordability of education and making Colorado one of the ten safest states. In fact, a recent report released by Governor Polis showed significant decreases in crime between January and June of 2025 compared to the same time period in 2024.
The Census Bureau data also revealed an increase in total births in Colorado during this time period. With 65,380 births between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025, there was a 4.6% increase from the previous year and the highest amount since 2017. Governor Polis expressed pride in the state's investment in children and families, including offering free Universal Preschool (UPK) and free full-day kindergarten to Colorado children, as well as fully funding K-12 schools.
As Colorado's population continues to grow, Governor Polis remains committed to making the state an even better place for its residents. With a focus on investing in communities and improving quality of life for all Coloradans, the future looks bright for this thriving state.
