Colorado Springs: Ready, Set, Go! – CSFD introduces wildfire preparedness campaign

~ Colorado Springs Launches New Wildfire Preparedness Campaign "Ready, Set, Go!"
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) and the City of Colorado Springs have joined forces to launch a new action-driven wildfire preparedness campaign called "Ready, Set, Go!" in response to the year-round risk of wildfires in the area. With recent unseasonably warm temperatures further emphasizing the need for early and consistent preparedness, this campaign aims to educate and empower residents to take necessary precautions.
"Ready, Set, Go!" is a nationally recognized 3-step plan that helps communities prepare, stay aware, and act when it comes to wildfires. The first step is to "Ready," which means preparing early as wildfires can strike at any time. The second step is to "Set," which indicates extreme threat and urges residents to be ready to leave quickly. The final step is "Go!," which emphasizes the importance of evacuating immediately when ordered to do so.

The messaging of this campaign has been specifically tailored to the risks and needs of the Colorado Springs community in order to make it easy for residents to remember and act upon during fast-moving emergencies. Mayor Yemi Mobolade stated that "the uncomfortable truth we face is that conditions in our region are once again ripe for the next Waldo Canyon or Black Forest-type wildfire." He emphasized the importance of being prepared today in order to prevent tragedy tomorrow.
Over the last decade, wildfire behavior has changed significantly due to shifting weather patterns and geographic conditions. This has resulted in a significant increase in Red Flag Warnings in Colorado Springs, highlighting the urgency for improved community readiness. Fire Chief Randy Royal stated that "with continued record high temperatures and lack of meaningful moisture, it is no secret our community is at a heightened risk this year." He urged residents to be prepared as their safety depends on it.

As the city continues to grow, it becomes increasingly important for residents to understand evacuation procedures and the critical actions first responders need them to take during a wildfire. Police Chief Adrian Vasquez stressed the importance of following evacuation orders quickly, stating that "during a wildfire evacuation, every minute matters." He urged residents to work together with first responders in order to ensure a faster and safer response.
CSFD and the City are encouraging all residents to take time now to review the Ready, Set, Go! steps and make a plan before wildfire threatens the community. Resources, preparedness guides, and additional information can be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/ReadySetGo. By working together and staying prepared, Colorado Springs can reduce wildfire risk, strengthen community resilience, and ensure a faster, safer response when every second counts.
