Colorado Springs: Marksheffel Road traffic restrictions begin Aug. 23 for utility and reconstruction work

~ Colorado Springs - Starting Sunday, August 23 at 7 p.m., major utility work and road reconstruction will begin on Marksheffel Road near Stetson Hills Boulevard. The project is expected to last approximately four weeks, with traffic restrictions in place until September 18.
According to the city's press release, northbound Marksheffel Road will be closed to through traffic from Tamlin Road to Tarren Heights. Drivers will be directed to turn left at Barnes Road and follow a signed detour that will take them west on Barnes Road, north on Peterson Road, and east on Dublin Boulevard. However, local and business traffic will still be able to continue north on Marksheffel Road to Tamlin Road. Access to Huber Road, businesses along Tamlin Road, and Peoples United Methodist Church will also be maintained from the south via northbound Marksheffel Road.

On the other hand, southbound Marksheffel Road will be closed to through traffic at Stetson Hills Boulevard. Drivers will need to turn right at Stetson Hills Boulevard and follow a signed detour that will take them west on Stetson Hills Boulevard, south on Peterson Road, and east on Barnes Road. Access to the Mountain Preserve neighborhood at Tarren Heights and Reach Church will still be available from the north via southbound Marksheffel Road.
Emergency access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. However, drivers are advised to allow for additional travel time and use caution near the work zone. Construction schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
The Marksheffel Road Improvements project aims to improve the existing two-lane section of Marksheffel Road between North Carefree Circle and Dublin Boulevard. Once completed, the road will have two lanes in each direction with a center median, improved drainage systems, and new sidewalks and paths for pedestrians.
