Colorado Springs: Garden of the Gods Road reduced to one lane for overnight work Wednesday

Rezul News/10729543
~ As the City of Colorado Springs continues its efforts to improve intersection safety, motorists can expect some delays on Garden of the Gods Road. According to a press release from the city, traffic on Garden of the Gods Road, east of Interstate 25, will be reduced to one lane each direction on Wednesday, March 11, starting at 8 p.m. and lasting through Thursday, March 12 at 5 a.m.

The reason for this lane reduction is due to crews installing new traffic signals and overhead arms at the intersections of Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard. This project is expected to be completed by late March.

To ensure the safety of both motorists and workers, drivers are urged to use extra caution while traveling through this area. Heavy equipment and work vehicles will be present, as well as workers on foot. If possible, motorists are advised to take alternative routes in order to minimize travel delays.

Crews also plan to remove old traffic signal poles approximately a week after the initial work is completed. Final touches will then be made on the project.

This median and intersection improvement project has been ongoing since mid-October and is funded by a combination of resources. The Colorado Department of Transportation has contributed $1.96 million towards the project, with additional support from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.
