Colorado Springs: Deceased Individuals Identified from Fatal Crash at Powers Boulevard and Fountain Boulevard

~ Colorado Springs, CO - In the early hours of July 13, 2025, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a distress call regarding a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Powers Boulevard and Fountain Boulevard. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that two individuals had tragically lost their lives in the collision. Two others were critically injured and immediately transported to a nearby hospital, while one person sustained serious injuries and was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. As a result of this incident, the CSPD Major Crash Team (MCT) was called to the scene and took over the investigation.

According to the MCT's findings, a Nissan Rogue carrying four passengers was traveling southbound on Powers Boulevard at an excessive speed when it collided with a Lexus SUV making an unprotected left turn onto Fountain Boulevard from northbound Powers. The impact caused the Nissan to slide and roll before coming to a stop on the southwest corner of the roadway.

The following day, on July 14, 2025, autopsies were conducted by the El Paso County Coroner's Office on the two deceased individuals from the crash. One of them was identified as an 18-year-old male named Bryan Jaramillo. The other victim was a minor and therefore their identity will not be released.

Sadly, on July 15th, one of the survivors from the Nissan Rogue succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Gabriel Zelayia and an autopsy was conducted by the El Paso County Coroners' Office on July 16th.

Tragically, another passenger from the Nissan Rogue passed away on July 16th due to their injuries. The fourth victim has been identified as 20-year-old Janet Pino-Lopez and an autopsy was conducted by the El Paso County Coroners' Office on July 17th.

These four young adults, aged between 17 and 20, mark the 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs this year. This time last year, there were already 31 traffic fatalities in the city. In the past year alone, there have been a total of 47 traffic-related deaths in Colorado Springs.

In the span of just eight days, from July 5th to July 13th, six individuals between the ages of 17 and 20 lost their lives in two separate crashes in the Colorado Springs area. Both incidents involved high speeds and alcohol, and none of the victims were wearing seatbelts. The CSPD is urging parents to have important conversations with their teenage drivers about safe driving practices. They are also reminding all drivers to slow down, wear seatbelts, and refrain from drinking and driving as these simple actions can save lives.

The CSPD continues to investigate this tragic incident and urges anyone with information to come forward. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this devastating crash.
