Colorado Springs: City invites proposals to bring community benefit to the Meadows Park facility
Rezul News/10727534
~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs has announced that it is seeking proposals from qualified partners to lease, purchase, or operate the former Meadows Park Community Center site. The goal is to find a new, community-focused use for the site that will provide lasting public benefit for the surrounding Stratton Meadows neighborhood.
According to Mayor Yemi Mobolade, the closure of the Meadows Park Community Center was a difficult decision and the city is committed to finding a meaningful path forward for the space. "We have worked closely with the community to determine their priorities and ensure that any future use of this facility aligns with their vision," said Mayor Mobolade.
The city has identified several priorities through community engagement and these have been reflected in the Request for Proposal (RFP). These priorities include youth programming, food access and basic needs support, senior and intergenerational services, health and wellness activities, workforce and educational opportunities, and flexible gathering space.

Proposals will be evaluated based on their ability to deliver public value, provide equitable and accessible use, and present a clear and viable plan for operating the facility. Those that do not meet these standards may not advance in the review process. The city expects to review proposals later this spring.
The RFP was developed after extensive community feedback from neighbors through a community survey and a neighborhood meeting. In addition, Mayor Mobolade formed a Meadows Park Solutions Team last fall to help guide decisions about the future of the facility after it was closed due to budget reductions. The 15-member team includes City staff, City Councilmembers, neighborhood residents, and community leaders who reviewed community feedback and used it to shape recommendations for how the space could best serve the Stratton Meadows neighborhood moving forward.
The full RFP can be found on the City of Colorado Springs Procurement Services website as well as on Rocky Mountain E-Purchasing BidNet Direct platform at www.bidnetdirect.com. All proposals must be submitted electronically through BidNet Direct by the stated deadline.
The City of Colorado Springs is excited about the potential for this space to be reimagined and serve the needs of the community. With careful consideration and input from the neighborhood, they are confident that a new use for the former Meadows Park Community Center site will bring new life to the area and reflect the hopes and needs of the community.
