Colorado Springs: Alex Kovacs named Aviation Director for COS

~ Colorado Springs, CO - Mayor Yemi Mobolade has announced the selection of Alex Kovacs as the new Director of Aviation for the Colorado Springs Airport (COS). Pending City Council confirmation, Kovacs will take on this role with a wealth of experience and expertise.

Kovacs has been serving as the Acting Director of Aviation at COS since February 2025. Prior to this, he held the position of Assistant Director of Aviation where he led the Finance, Properties, and Design and Construction Teams. With his extensive background in airport management, Mayor Mobolade is confident that Kovacs is the right person to lead COS to new heights.

"I am confident that Alex brings the experience and expertise needed to take us to the next level of the COS Airport's legacy," said Mayor Yemi Mobolade. "With a record number of passengers, a vibrant and modern new concourse, and expanded air service including our first international destination added this year, there are still more great things to come at our growing airport. Kovacs brings with him 16 years of experience from his time at the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. Most recently serving as Director of Finance, he led various areas including Accounting, Budgeting, Finance, and Risk Management. He also held positions on both the Nevada Aviation Association and Southwest Chapter of American Association of Airport Executives (SWAAAE) boards.

With a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, a Master's in Business Administration, and a Master's in Science in Management and Leadership under his belt, Kovacs is well-equipped for his new role. He is also a certified member of American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and currently pursuing an Accredited Airport Executive designation.

As Aviation Director for Colorado Springs Airport, Kovacs will oversee all airport operations including maintenance, construction, economic development, marketing, and long-term planning activities. He will also be responsible for implementing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, and developing programs and strategies to maximize the potential of the airport, including business development at Peak Innovation Park.

The City Council is expected to confirm Kovacs' selection as Director of Aviation in the coming weeks. With his leadership and vision, the Colorado Springs Airport is poised for continued success and growth in the future.
