~ Colorado Springs Airport Launches New Art Program in Collaboration with Local Organizations
The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is excited to announce the launch of their new program, Art at COS. Developed in partnership with Cottonwood Center for the Arts and Downtown Creative District's Art on the Streets, this dynamic initiative will showcase the city's cultural diversity, creativity, and rich heritage. In celebration of Arts Month 2025, organized by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region, Art at COS will debut in October with a call for entries for the January 2026 art exhibit. The program will also feature three large-scale outdoor sculptures installed on October 15 and 22, 2025.
According to Alex Kovacs, Director of Aviation at COS, this program is more than just filling walls and spaces with art. It is about honoring the identity of the community and creating a sense of place for travelers passing through the airport. "With the launch of Art at COS, we have an opportunity to share the spirit of Colorado Springs with every traveler who passes through our airport," said Kovacs.
The indoor exhibition space for Art at COS will be curated by Cottonwood Center for the Arts and located on the second floor near TSA queuing. The first exhibition will open in January 2026 and will feature new works rotated quarterly to highlight local and regional artists.

Jess Preble, Gallery Director at Cottonwood Center for the Arts expressed her excitement about being a part of this initiative. "Colorado Springs Airport is often the first impression visitors have of our city and region. Art at COS immediately connects them to our vibrant community," said Preble.
Artists interested in participating can apply through Cottonwood Center for the Arts website at https://coloradosprings.gov/ArtatCOS. Submissions will not be accepted directly by the airport.
In addition to the rotating gallery, Art at COS will also feature large-scale sculptures selected through an independent jury process. These sculptures will be an extension of the Downtown Creative District's Art on the Streets program. The first installation includes Lepidoptera by Kasia Polkowska, installed on October 15, 2025; along with Blossoming and Muse of Music by Jodi Bliss that will be installed on October 22, 2025.
Michelle Winchell, Creative District Director at Downtown Colorado Springs, expressed her excitement about this partnership. "The Downtown Creative District is excited to partner with the Colorado Springs Airport for this initiative. The airport is a gateway to the Pikes Peak Region and Downtown, and this is a wonderful opportunity for our artists to use their creativity to welcome people to our community," said Winchell.

All art will be located in publicly accessible areas of the airport, making it available to both travelers and community visitors. This program is a reimagined revival of the airport's Cultural Gateway of the Rockies program, which aims to build upon their existing art collection through rotating exhibits around the airport.
As the gateway to the Pikes Peak Region, COS celebrates the rich history, cultural diversity, and creativity of their community through Art at COS. For centuries, art has been inspired by towering mountains, sprawling plains, college campuses, military bases, historic districts, and modern marvels in Colorado Springs. It is shaped by the people who came before us and the diversity that exists today.
"We are proud to showcase Colorado Springs as a community with art as part of our identity," said Kovacs.
The airport invites visitors who love art, artists who make art, and locals who see a part of themselves in art to celebrate COS as a PLACE and ART as a COMMUNITY.
