GRAND JUNCTION ~ Grand Junction, CO - Liberty Apartments, a new development that aims to provide affordable housing for the community, has been awarded $8 million in funding from Proposition 123. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Governor Polis, along with representatives from the City of Grand Junction and Aspire Residential, LLC.

The development, which is set to bring 72 units of workforce housing in its first phase, was granted the funding through Proposition 123's equity program in December of 2025. This program aims to support the construction of affordable housing across Colorado.

Governor Polis expressed his excitement for the project and highlighted the importance of partnerships between local governments and private companies in addressing the issue of affordable housing. He also emphasized the environmental benefits of net-zero energy use in reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy costs.

Liberty Apartments will offer one- and two-bedroom units to households earning 60% - 100% area median income. Aspire Residential LLC, the developer behind this project, plans to build an additional 120 units at the site. They are also exploring opportunities to bring similar net-zero workforce housing developments to other areas on the Western Slope.

This development is a step towards providing more affordable housing options for Coloradans and creating sustainable communities across the state. With support from programs like Proposition 123 and partnerships with local governments, it is hoped that more projects like Liberty Apartments will be able to address the growing need for affordable housing in Colorado.
