City of Tacoma Launches Regional Driver Safety Campaign to Support Safer Streets

Rezul News/10726405
~ The City of Tacoma has taken a proactive step towards improving road safety with the launch of a new driver safety campaign. The campaign, which is funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, aims to reduce crashes and promote safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users in the region.

Aligned with the city's Vision Zero and Safe Routes to School goals, the campaign will focus on education, outreach, and positive messaging. Its tagline, "You could save a life," emphasizes the impact of everyday driving choices on preventing serious injuries and fatalities. The campaign will run from now until March 18, 2026 and will feature weekly messages on Facebook and Instagram.

Some of the key topics that will be covered in these messages include not blocking crosswalks, giving cyclists enough space on the road, stopping for school buses, and driving at safer speeds in residential areas and school zones. To further amplify its reach and promote consistent safety messaging across the region, the cities of Puyallup, University Place, and Fircrest have also joined this initiative.

This collaboration between multiple jurisdictions is part of a larger effort to make active transportation more accessible by reducing barriers. The Puget Sound Regional Council has provided grant funding for this partnership. For more information about Vision Zero in Tacoma, visit tacoma.gov/visionzero.
