City of Tacoma Invites Community to Shape the Future of Their Neighborhoods at Upcoming Code Update Event
Rezul News/10732195
TACOMA, Wash. ~ The City of Tacoma is seeking input from its community members on proposed updates to the city's zoning and land use codes. The Planning & Development Services Department is hosting an information session at STAR Center on May 9th from 1-3 p.m. to provide residents with an opportunity to learn about and weigh in on the changes that will shape the city's future.
The event aims to promote transparency, collaboration, and broader participation from the community. It will be a family-friendly event with translation services available in Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. Refreshments will also be provided, and families in attendance will receive free entrance to the Treetops children's play area at STAR Center.
The proposed updates under consideration include rules for special needs housing, daycares, and McKinley pre-annexations as part of the Housing and Neighborhood Growth (2026 Annual Code Update). There will also be discussions on parking requirements that affect street congestion and pedestrian safety as part of the Parking Code Update. Additionally, there will be talks about how the city plans to protect its natural landscape through updates to the Tree Code and Critical Areas Code to support a healthy urban tree canopy, safeguard vulnerable ecosystems, and improve local air and water quality.
