~ The City of Spokane is currently seeking applicants for a Park Board position, as announced by Fianna Dickson, the city's spokesperson. The position is set to begin in February 2026 and has a term of five years, with the option to serve a second five-year term.
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online, with the application remaining open until the position is filled. The Park Board is an independent body of city residents, designated by the City Charter, responsible for policy and fiduciary oversight of Parks & Recreation.
Candidates must be residents within the city limits and should have a strong involvement in community organizations. They should also possess a broad understanding of the city's recreational needs and interests. Along with community engagement, candidates should be prepared to make decisions regarding budget and policy.

The average monthly time commitment for this volunteer position is approximately 12 hours. The Mayor appoints the position and it is confirmed by the City Council.
Mayor Lisa Brown expressed her appreciation for the important role that the City of Spokane Park Board plays in shaping spaces where the community can connect. She also highlighted the dedication of its members and their impact on improving parks. Mayor Brown looks forward to welcoming the next individual who will help guide the future of Spokane's parks.
Established in 1910, Article V of the City Charter grants power to the Spokane Park Board to layout, establish, purchase, procure, accept, and have care, management, control, and improvement over all parks grounds and parkways used for park purposes within the city.
