California leaders on the U.S. Supreme Court denying the Trump DOJ's attempt to undermine California's elections, disenfranchise voters
Rezul News/10750026
~ The U.S. Supreme Court denied the Trump administration's request for an emergency order in a case challenging California's election procedures, according to a statement issued by Gov. Gavin Newsom's office on Nov. 2. The court's order had no noted dissents, the statement said.
Newsom said the decision followed losses for the administration in lower courts and rejected what he called a baseless attack on California's electoral process. He said voters could feel secure that the state would conduct a free and fair election, and urged Californians to cast their ballots.
Attorney General Rob Bonta said courts had rejected the administration's efforts four times, from the district court through the Ninth Circuit and the Supreme Court. He said the latest decision should end the effort to disrupt the state's elections through emergency court orders, while adding that his office would remain vigilant.

Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber said the ruling would allow millions of Californians to focus on voting ahead of Election Day, while cautioning that the broader dispute was not over.
The press release did not specify the legal claims at issue or provide details of the Supreme Court's order beyond its denial of the emergency request.
Newsom's office said the governor and state Legislature had taken steps this year to protect elections, including creating new felonies for attempted election interference and allocating nearly $40 million for additional staffing and technology intended to speed ballot counting and strengthen election security in every county.
