California: Governor Newsom Proclaims State of Emergency in Mono County for Pack Fire
Rezul News/10722475
~ SACRAMENTO - On December 9, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency in Mono County due to the devastating effects of the Pack Fire. The fire, which started on November 13 near Lake Crowley in the eastern Sierra Nevada, was fully contained on December 3. However, it left behind a trail of destruction, destroying 30 residential and commercial structures and damaging six others.
In response to this emergency, Governor Newsom has taken swift action to support ongoing recovery efforts for the affected communities. The emergency proclamation includes provisions for expediting household hazardous waste and debris removal for impacted homes and businesses. This will help speed up the recovery process and provide much-needed relief to those affected by the fire.
At its peak, the Pack Fire forced approximately 1,800 residents from their homes in the Long Valley and McGee Creek communities. However, all evacuation orders and warnings have since been lifted as the fire has been contained.
In addition to state resources being made available through the emergency declaration, California has also received approval from the U.S. Small Business Administration for financial assistance to impacted community members. Low-interest disaster loans will be made available to homeowners, renters, and businesses affected by the Pack Fire.

The California Film Commission's recent announcement of four awardees for its Film & Television Tax Credit program has also brought attention to California's star power in the entertainment industry. These four awardees have dominated nominations for the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.
Meanwhile, Governor Newsom continues to prioritize infrastructure upgrades in California with a recent approval of $1.1 billion by the California Transportation Commission. This funding will go towards zero-emission transit options, safer roadways, and resilient infrastructure projects.
The Governor's SAFE Task Force has also been working closely with local authorities in Long Beach to address encampments in the area. As a result of their efforts, 25 people and eight pets have been sheltered in a recently opened state-funded Homekey shelter.
While the nation's infrastructure may be lacking under the current administration, California is setting an example of bold leadership and taking action to support its communities in times of crisis. With the Governor's emergency declaration and ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and provide assistance to those affected by disasters, California continues to demonstrate its resilience and commitment to its residents.
