California: Governor Newsom proclaims Autism Acceptance Month

~ In a recent proclamation, Governor Gavin Newsom declared April 2026 as "Autism Acceptance Month" in California. This month-long recognition aims to celebrate the contributions of autistic individuals and raise awareness about the challenges they face in reaching their full potential.

The governor's proclamation highlighted the important role that California's 21 regional centers play in providing community-based developmental services and support to over 214,000 individuals with autism. These centers are dedicated to honoring and empowering the diverse perspectives, talents, and achievements of those on the autism spectrum.

To further support individuals with autism, the state has established an Autism Hub at the Department of Developmental Services. This hub operates a helpline to assist with inquiries and requests for assistance, as well as connecting people with resources related to autism.
