California: Governor Newsom demands answers from RFK Jr. over dangerous and racist remarks about "reparenting" Black children
Rezul News/10732903
~ Sacramento - Governor Gavin Newsom is demanding answers from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after disturbing comments resurfaced in which he suggested that Black children prescribed medications should be removed from their homes and "re-parented." The Governor is calling for immediate action following the Secretary's inability to address these remarks during a congressional hearing yesterday.
Congresswoman Terri Sewell directly questioned RFK Jr. about his racist comments from a podcast interview, but he was unable to provide a satisfactory response. This has raised serious concerns about his fitness to serve as Secretary and the impact of his views on the health of 341 million Americans.
In a statement, Governor Newsom expressed his outrage at the resurfaced remarks, stating, "We've known RFK Jr. has been unfit to serve as Secretary, but these comments reflect a racist mentality that is absolutely unacceptable for a leader charged with protecting the health of all Americans." He emphasized that the Secretary must be held accountable for his deeply disturbing comments and that we cannot become desensitized to the actions of this federal administration.

This is not the first time a prominent representative of the Trump Administration has made racist comments. In January, California filed a civil rights complaint against Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz for making derogatory remarks about the Armenian-American community. Dr. Oz had posted a video on an official social media account making racially-charged allegations against Armenian-Americans, including accusing them of being affiliated with the Mafia based on their use of "Russian Armenian" lettering on public signage.
The revelation of RFK Jr.'s comments adds to this pattern within the Trump administration and highlights the need for accountability and action against racism in all forms.
In other news, California is taking steps towards modernizing state government by implementing new programs, services, and strategies to better serve its citizens. These efforts are aimed at making government more efficient, effective, and engaged. Governor Newsom encourages Californians to visit results.ca.gov to learn more about these initiatives.

As Earth Day approaches, the Governor is also calling on Californians to take action on climate change. The California Climate Action Corps is mobilizing communities for Earth Month with volunteer events across the state. This includes tree planting, beach cleanups, and other efforts to protect the environment.
Lastly, Governor Newsom has proclaimed April 2026 as Arab American Heritage Month in recognition of the contributions and diversity of the Arab American community in California. The proclamation highlights the over 20 nationalities and numerous cultures that make up this community and celebrates their rich heritage.
As California continues to make strides towards progress and inclusivity, Governor Newsom remains committed to promoting equality and justice for all its citizens.
