Boston Parks and Recreation to Host Second Annual "Putting for Parks" Golf Tournament

~ Boston, MA- The city's annual Putting for Parks fundraising event is back for its second year, bringing the community together for a day of golf while supporting free youth sports and fitness programs offered by the Recreation Division.

Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her excitement for the event, stating, "Putting for Parks is a fun and meaningful way to support the free youth programs that strengthen our neighborhoods. We hope you'll join us at George Wright this October!"

The tournament will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Golfers can look forward to 18 holes of play, on-course contests, and a celebratory luncheon on the clubhouse patio. Individual registration is available for $175 or teams can register for $700.

All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting free youth sports programs in Boston. These programs include youth sports leagues, clinics, Summer Sports Centers, and the popular Mayor's Cup Tournaments in various sports such as soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, cross country, ice hockey, street hockey, tennis and more.

In 2024 alone, over 20,000 Boston youth were able to participate in these free programs thanks to the Recreation Division's efforts in providing access to physical activity, team building and leadership development in neighborhoods across the city.

Interim Boston Parks and Recreation Commissioner Cathy Baker-Eclipse emphasized the importance of recreation in their mission to support Boston's communities. She stated that the Putting for Parks Tournament not only provides a fun day on the green but also serves as a meaningful way to invest in the health and well-being of future generations.

Registration for the event is now open and will close on September 28th. The tournament will be supported by title sponsor AFSCME Council 93. Mark Bernard, Executive Director of AFSCME Council 93 expressed their support stating that providing recreational opportunities for youth is essential in building self-esteem, improving health and creating connections with other kids from around the city. He also noted that it helps steer them away from trouble and they are proud to support this important effort.

Businesses and organizations are encouraged to support the event by sponsoring a hole or selecting from other sponsorship packages. The deadline for sponsors to register is September 26th in order to have their logo included in event materials.
