Boston: National Human Trafficking Prevention Month
Rezul News/10727031
~ Boston City Council Declares January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month
In a recent resolution, the Boston City Council declared January 2026 as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. The resolution, offered by Councilor Flynn, aims to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking and highlight the importance of prevention and support for survivors.
Human trafficking, also known as modern slavery, includes forced labor and sex trafficking. It remains a difficult crime to combat due to low public awareness, limited reporting, and the increasing use of technology. The Council recognized that natural disasters, conflicts, and other instabilities can further exacerbate these challenges.

The resolution also acknowledged the efforts of state and local organizations in addressing human trafficking. This includes the Commonwealth's Human Trafficking Division at the Attorney General's Office and Boston's Collaborative Efforts Against Sexual Exploitation (CEASE). CEASE works towards preventing and addressing commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking through collaboration across sectors, policy development, and strategic models like the Equality Model Legislation.
The Council emphasized the importance of recognizing survivors and supporting anti-trafficking organizations, law enforcement, advocates, and businesses. They also stressed the need for educating the public about this ongoing crime against humanity. By declaring January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the Council reaffirms Boston's commitment to raising awareness, promoting safety, and strengthening efforts to end human trafficking in the city and beyond.
