Boston: Mayor Wu Appoints Felicia Jacques to BPDA Board

~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced the nomination of Felicia Jacques to the BPDA Board, filling a vacant seat previously held by Dr. Ted Landsmark. Jacques, who currently serves as the Principal Developer and Manager for Maloney Development, will need to be approved by the City Council before officially joining the Board.
If confirmed, Jacques will become the first Black woman to serve on the BPDA Board. This appointment is part of Mayor Wu's growth agenda for the city, which aims to make Boston a beautiful, welcoming, and family-friendly home for all residents.
In a statement, Mayor Wu expressed her excitement about nominating Jacques to the Board. She praised Jacques' decades of experience in housing leadership and civic involvement, stating that she will bring valuable expertise to further advance efforts in overseeing development, supporting housing production, and preserving the history and vibrancy of Boston's neighborhoods.

Chief of Planning Kairos Shen also expressed his support for Jacques' nomination, highlighting her deep understanding of the development review process through her current role at Maloney Development. He also noted her involvement in various historic and community preservation boards and committees in Boston as a testament to her dedication towards thoughtful and pragmatic development in the city.
With over 20 years of experience in development, zoning, entitlements, financing, and design, Jacques brings a wealth of knowledge to the BPDA Board. She has been actively involved in Boston as Chair of the City's Community Preservation Committee and as part of organizations such as Historic Boston Inc., Boston Landmarks Commission, and Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA). Prior to her current role at Maloney Development, she served as Director of Real Estate Development for The Community Builders Inc. in the Northeast Region. She is also a member of Urban Land Institute (ULI) and Boston Chamber of Commerce.

Jacques expressed her honor at being appointed to support Mayor Wu's goals for increasing creativity in urban planning and design while also prioritizing community needs. She currently resides in Boston with her family.
The BPDA Board is an official body of five members who vote on final determinations and agreements brought to them by the staff of the Planning Department. This includes planning studies, rezoning initiatives, land dispositions and acquisitions, and development project approvals. The Board's decisions are made following a thorough community vetting and stakeholder review process led by Planning Department staff. Four of the five board members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, while one member is appointed by the Governor. Each member serves a five-year staggered term.
