Boston: Mayor Michelle Wu to Host First Ever State of the Schools Address
Rezul News/10717844
~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced that she will be hosting the first ever State of the Schools address, in an effort to celebrate and showcase the progress and achievements of the Boston Public Schools (BPS). The event, which will take place at the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Chinatown on Tuesday, October 28, will highlight the ambitious goals set by BPS under the leadership of Superintendent Mary Skipper.
In a time when public education is facing challenges and criticism, Mayor Wu aims to celebrate and recognize the hard work and dedication of Boston's educators. She also plans to lay out a shared agenda to make BPS the top choice for families in Boston.
"Our mission is to make Boston Public Schools the first choice for families. The country's oldest public school system should be the best, and our city has the resources and vision to make it happen," said Mayor Wu.
The State of the Schools address will begin at 7:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m., with doors opening for invited guests at 6:00 p.m. Media personnel are invited to set up at 5:30 p.m. The event will also be streamed live on boston.gov, with NBC10 serving as the pool camera. Other media outlets will have a designated section and will be ushered to a scrum following the event. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by Monday, October 27 at 5:00 p.m.

Superintendent Mary Skipper expressed her dedication towards ensuring that every student in BPS receives high-quality support and resources to reach their full potential in an uplifting learning environment.
"Across our school communities, we are dedicated to ensuring that every student has the support and resources needed to reach their full potential in learning environments that uplift students and gives them a sense of purpose," said Superintendent Skipper.
The State of the Schools address is seen as an exciting opportunity to honor the collective commitment of BPS and reaffirm the shared belief that every child in Boston deserves a world-class education. Mayor Wu, along with Superintendent Skipper, Treasurer and Receiver General Deb Goldberg, the City's Public Facilities Department, and members of the Chinatown community, officially opened the newly constructed Josiah Quincy Upper School last September. The school, which serves grades 6-12, boasts state-of-the-art facilities such as a media center, fitness center, and band rooms to help students explore their individual educational interests and reach their full potential.
With this State of the Schools address, Mayor Wu hopes to showcase the progress and achievements of BPS while also inviting the entire city to join in pushing forward progress for Boston's young people and families. As she stated, "It takes a village and together with our educators, families and community partners, we are creating a district where our students can truly thrive."
