Boston: Major Construction Milestone For Transformative White Stadium Project
Rezul News/10750466
Mayor Michelle Wu, Boston Legacy FC Controlling Owner Jennifer Epstein and BPS leadership joined BOND Building Construction, students, residents, and park advocates to celebrate White Stadium's final structural beam at the topping-off ceremony in Franklin Park. The milestone marked the completion of the stadium's structural framework, achieving a major step for this generational investment in Boston's students, families, and professional women athletes. The beam was signed by Boston Public Schools (BPS) students, community members, Boston Legacy FC players, club ownership and local leaders, recognizing the community's role in the stadium's next chapter.
"Today we mark a major milestone toward fulfilling our promise of delivering the best student athletics facility in the country for BPS students and our community," said Mayor Michelle Wu. "We thank our teams at BPS and the City, Boston Legacy FC, the ironworkers, construction crews, engineers, and project teams making this possible, and the Franklin Park neighbors whose input has helped shape this project. We're excited to celebrate this major construction milestone as the new, world-class White Stadium comes to life."
With nearly 2,500 tons of structural steel now in place, White Stadium is entering into its next phase of construction. Crews will be advancing utility connections, installing precast panels, and waterproofing and enclosing the building to support interior work throughout the winter. Over the next year, work will focus on completing interior spaces and amenities, constructing the track and field facilities, and advancing landscaping and remaining site improvements.
The transformation of White Stadium represents a once-in-a-generation investment in Boston Public Schools students, expanding access to high-quality athletic facilities, and creating opportunities for young people across Boston. The project also represents a historic partnership between the City and Boston Legacy FC, bringing new investment to Franklin Park and helping advance the future of women's professional sports. The project will deliver $252 million in privately funded community benefits over the next 15 years—the largest community and public benefits agreement in the City's history.
"The topping off of White Stadium is a major milestone that reflects the vision, leadership and collective commitment of everyone who has helped bring the renovation to life. Our players deserve a true home in this city—a place that reflects their talent and ambition and shows that women's professional sports belong here for the long haul," said Jennifer Epstein, Controlling Owner of Boston Legacy FC. "Playing in a stadium that also serves Boston Public Schools student-athletes gives this project a special purpose and creates a connection between young athletes and the professionals they can aspire to become. We are building more than a home for our team; we are helping write the next chapter of a stadium that has been part of Boston's story for generations."

"Providing students with meaningful ways to learn, grow, and connect beyond the classroom is an important part of the BPS experience," said Boston Public Schools Superintendent Mary Skipper. "White Stadium will give our student-athletes a dedicated home for BPS Athletics, where they can strengthen their skills, build confidence, and represent their schools with pride. We are thankful to the City of Boston, Boston Legacy FC, and our community partners for working alongside us to create a high-quality athletic space that will benefit our students and the broader Boston community for generations to come."
At its core, White Stadium is an investment in the next generation of Boston athletes. With 95% of stadium use reserved for Boston Public Schools students and school programming, the renovated facility will expand access to athletics, public space and community programming. At the same time, it will help shape the future of women's professional sports as the first stadium in the country to be co-housed and owned by a public school and purpose-built for professional women's soccer.
"This structure stands as a testament to the vision, collaboration, and tireless effort of our many dedicated partners," said Carleton Jones, Executive Director of the City of Boston's Public Facilities Department. "This milestone is a direct tribute to the work of the skilled tradespeople and project team who have made it a reality. We are proud to celebrate the continued transformation of this historic stadium to a modern, accessible public space for the City of Boston."
The City and Boston Legacy FC are connecting local communities to the project's economic opportunities, awarding $61 million in contracts to local and minority- and women-owned businesses. These awards include $35 million to women-owned businesses and $23 million to minority-owned businesses, including $16 million to Black-owned businesses with dozens local businesses receiving contracts to work on the project. An additional $3 million has been committed to minority-owned , women-owned, and local businesses, with those contracts still to be awarded.
Community input has also been key to shaping transportation planning for the stadium and surrounding neighborhoods. This fall, The City hosted four community meetings in September 2026 and launched the White Stadium Neighborhood Parking Protection Survey in October to inform transportation planning within Franklin Park and the surrounding 0.75-mile radius. More than 800 residents responded to the survey, helping inform the transportation plan that will be announced in winter 2027.

"The Franklin Park Coalition is pleased to see the amazing progress to this point, on the White Stadium Project," said Rickie Thompson, President, Franklin Park Coalition. "I took a tour of the site about two weeks ago. It was wonderful to see the strength and conditioning, community room, kitchen, study and office spaces. The diverse work force is doing a phenomenal job. We look forward to the completion of this state of the art facility, for our students and community. The last thing I saw on my tour was the original casting that was stripped of decades of paint. I noticed the spikes on their shoes that reminded me of my track days in the stadium, on the cinder track. So knowing that our students are going to have a stadium that they compete in with equity, pride and confidence."
When complete, White Stadium will feature 10,500 permanent seats, a regulation natural grass playing surface, an MIAA-standard eight-lane track and modern athletic and community amenities. The stadium will remain a public asset owned by Boston Public Schools, with the renovation preserving its historic character while creating expanded opportunities for student-athletes, families and the broader Boston community.
"Topping off the West Grandstand reflects the close coordination among BOND, Boston Legacy FC, Able Company, the City of Boston, and our design and trade partners. This milestone is a credit to the hard work of everyone involved, with special recognition for the skilled tradespeople whose craftsmanship, dedication, and commitment to safety are moving this transformational project forward," said Frank Hayes, President of BOND Building Construction.
"Local 7 ironworkers are proud to help build a stronger Boston while creating good union jobs and opportunities for multiple generations of workers. For some of our members, this was another proud job building their city. For others, it was their first opportunity on a union jobsite — a gateway to a lifelong career in the trades. Building union is always the right way to go, and this project shows why," said Vincent Coyle Jr., Business Manager, Ironworkers Local 7. "Our members have been proud to work on both the public and private portions of this project, and we appreciate Mayor Wu's role in helping move this important investment forward. We're proud of the work we've done, and even prouder knowing that fans, families and young people will benefit from the revitalization of White Stadium for generations to come."
