Boston: December 19, 2025 Traffic Advisory

Rezul News/10723313
~ As the end of the year approaches, Boston residents and visitors are gearing up for the annual First Night celebration on December 31, 2025. This highly anticipated event will bring together people from all over to ring in the new year with a variety of activities and performances.

However, attendees are being encouraged to consider alternative modes of transportation to get to and from the festivities. The organizers are promoting walking, biking, or taking public transit as the best options for getting around during this busy time. For those interested in biking, information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, can be found on their website. And for those relying on public transit, information on the MBTA can be found online.

In order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and maintain public safety during First Night Boston, several parking restrictions will be in place throughout Wednesday. These restrictions will affect various streets in Back Bay including Cambridge Street, Arlington Street, Atlantic Avenue, Beacon Street, Blagden Street, Boylston Street, Charles Street and Tremont Street.

Meanwhile in Roslindale, drivers should take note that the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday September 12th until further notice. This closure is due to findings from a recent bridge inspection that deemed it necessary for repairs. Pedestrian access will still be available but drivers are advised to follow detour signs that will lead them through Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street and Brown Avenue.

Drivers traveling through these affected areas should expect delays and are reminded to reduce speed and use caution while navigating through detours. The primary detour route for eastbound traffic will utilize Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway while westbound traffic should follow Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street.

With these updates in mind, both Back Bay and Roslindale residents can look forward to a safe and enjoyable First Night Boston celebration and a smooth commute in the coming days.
