Chief Climate Officer Brian Swett opened the festival with remarks highlighting the importance of BERDO in reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in Boston. He emphasized that buildings account for nearly 70% of the city's total emissions, making BERDO a crucial tool in reaching its goal of carbon net neutrality by 2050.
The inaugural BERDO Fest featured a resource fair, four panel discussions, and speeches from City of Boston representatives and building sustainability leaders. The event also recognized five organizations as Spotlights for their early leadership in building decarbonization.
More than 30 vendors participated in the festival, showcasing sustainable energy technologies and solutions to help building owners and property managers meet BERDO requirements. The full list of vendors can be found on the 2025 vendor list.
The success of this first-ever BERDO Fest highlights the commitment of the City of Boston and its partners to drive building decarbonization efforts. With continued collaboration and innovation, Boston is on track to achieve its goal of carbon net neutrality by 2050.
