Bloomington: Second Street Construction to Bring Temporary One-Way Traffic Pattern Beginning October 21
Rezul News/10748305
~ Second Street will close to eastbound traffic beginning Wednesday, October 21, as construction advances on roadway and drainage improvements, according to the city. Westbound traffic will remain open, while eastbound drivers will be detoured to First Street.
The temporary traffic pattern will give crews space to replace asphalt, install stormwater infrastructure and pave along the south side of the street, the city said. Although the construction contract allows for a single-lane closure of up to 45 days, the current schedule calls for restoring two-way traffic before Thanksgiving.

The work is part of the city's Second Street Improvement Project, which includes a two-way protected bike lane along the north side of the street from Walker to the B-Line. Plans also call for replacing traffic signals at Second and Walker streets and Second and Rogers Street, and installing storm sewers, pavement, lighting, curb ramps, improved bus stops, sidewalks and street trees.
The Indiana Department of Transportation manages and oversees the construction contract, including contractor operations and scheduling, according to the city.
Drivers are advised to follow posted detours and allow extra travel time. The city said construction schedules may change because of weather and site conditions. Updates on road, sidewalk and parking restrictions are available at bloomington.in.gov/inroads.
