Applications open for Springfield Police Department motorcycle safety course

Springfield, Mo. ~ Springfield, Mo. - The Springfield Police Department Traffic Section is offering a new opportunity for experienced riders to enhance their skills and promote safer riding on the road. The Share the Road civilian motorcycle course is now open for applications, with the next course taking place on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
This one-day course is free to the public and aims to equip riders with advanced techniques and skills to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes. Participants will learn about motorcycle handling, object avoidance, and other important techniques that can make them better riders.
Interested individuals must submit an application by Thursday, May 15 at noon in order to be considered for the course. To be eligible, riders must have a valid motorcycle endorsement (not a permit) and own a motorcycle with a minimum engine size of 250cc. All motorcycles must also have legal exhaust and handlebars that meet safety standards.

In addition, participants must have motorcycle insurance, wear a legal DOT approved helmet and eye protection, as well as footwear that covers the ankles. Proper motorcycle attire is also required, with optional armored or padded gear available for added protection. A signed liability waiver is also necessary to participate in the course.
For those unable to attend the May 17 session, there will be additional course dates offered throughout 2025 on June 14, Sept. 6, and Oct. 11. Interested riders can fill out an application for any of these dates.
