HARRISBURG, Pa. - Rezul -- The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC, www.aepact.org) proudly commends the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' overwhelming adoption of House Resolution 441 (HR 441), recognizing March 2, 2026, as "Adwa Victory Day" in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Passed by a bipartisan vote of 195-6, HR 441 commemorates the 130th anniversary of the historic Battle of Adwa, where Ethiopian forces decisively defeated a colonial Italian army on March 1, 1896. The victory secured Ethiopia's sovereignty and became a defining symbol of freedom, self-determination, and resistance against colonial domination throughout Africa and the world.

The Pennsylvania House's recognition of Adwa Victory Day honors not only a pivotal moment in Ethiopian history but also a milestone in the global struggle for human dignity, national independence, and equality among nations. Adwa inspired generations of Africans, African Americans, and freedom movements across the globe by demonstrating that colonial conquest was neither inevitable nor permanent.

AEPAC commends Representative Benjamin Sanchez and the bipartisan coalition of legislators who sponsored and supported HR 441. Their leadership reflects Pennsylvania's commitment to celebrating cultural diversity, promoting historical awareness, and recognizing the important contributions of Ethiopian Americans and the broader African diaspora.

The adoption of HR 441 also acknowledges the growing Ethiopian-American community in Pennsylvania and across the United States, whose contributions enrich the social, economic, educational, and cultural fabric of American society.
