Turkey's Trade Deficit Widened 8.3% Through July 2026. Macro Data Alone Can't Explain Why
Rezul News/10744346
Official Turkish trade statistics, the same national data that feeds macro platforms like the International Trade Centre's Trade Map (ITC Trade Map), show the gap widening in 2026. TradeInt's shipment-level records show why, down to within about 1% of the official number. What that macro number does not show is which products, ports, and companies are actually driving it.
SINGAPORE - Rezul -- Turkey's trade deficit has widened 8.3% so far in 2026, according to the country's official trade statistics, the same national data that flows into macro platforms like the International Trade Centre's Trade Map (ITC Trade Map), a joint World Trade Organization and United Nations agency's global trade database covering more than 150 countries.
Turkey's 2025 trade deficit reached $92 billion, the largest on record, as imports grew 6.2% to roughly $364 billion against exports of $269.7 billion, according to TradeInt's review of the year's shipment data. Mineral fuels alone accounted for 16.8% of imports, and gold imports totaled $23.1 billion, a pattern macro statistics can size but not source.

That is the structural difference between the two layers of trade data. ITC Trade Map and comparable national statistics report totals: how much a country imported or exported, broken down by product category and partner country, updated monthly or annually.
TradeInt's shipment-level data starts from the same customs and carrier records but keeps the detail those aggregates strip out: the exact shipment, the exporting and importing company, the port, and the date. For Turkey's first quarter of 2026, TradeInt's independently compiled figures, $91.07 billion in imports and $63.26 billion in exports, landed within roughly 1% of the $91.9 billion and $63.2 billion reported in Turkey's official statistics for the same period.
Turkey's vehicles and automotive category alone made up $36.76 billion of 2025 exports, 13.4% of the total, while passenger vehicle imports ran $22.33 billion the same year. Shipment-level records show the specific automotive importers and exporters behind those totals, down to the company and product line. "Macro trade data and shipment data are not rivals. They answer different questions," said Adam, Senior Trade Specialist at TradeInt. "When our shipment-level totals land within a percent of what Turkey's own statistics report, that is the system working as intended. The value is not in disagreeing with the aggregate number. It is in showing what is inside it." Businesses can preview historical shipment-level records for Turkey and more than 200 other countries at tradeint.com/search.
