~ Tacoma Mayor Stands with Community in Response to Recent Federal Enforcement Actions
In the wake of recent events in Minneapolis and Portland, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards has joined the chorus of voices expressing outrage over the killing of Renee Nicole Good and the shootings by ICE agents. The use of force by federal agents has been met with deep concern and has highlighted the reckless disregard for local communities shown by recent federal enforcement actions.
Mayor Woodards stands in solidarity with impacted families, community members seeking justice, and local leaders who are demanding answers in the face of these tragedies. She recognizes that real public safety is built on trust between neighbors and between people and their local government. This trust is earned through actions, not dictated from Washington, D.C.
In Tacoma, this trust is constantly being nurtured and strengthened. In times of crisis, Tacomans come together to support one another. Mayor Woodards emphasizes that this is about Tacoma and standing united with all residents, regardless of their immigration status.

The Mayor firmly believes that silence in the face of federal overreach and reckless endangerment of communities is not an option. That is why she fully supports the City Council's adoption of Resolution 41627 and Resolution 41817. These resolutions limit the use of City resources to assist federal immigration enforcement operations.
Mayor Woodards sees these resolutions as a necessary and principled line drawn to ensure that federal civil enforcement does not interfere with local policing, crowd control, or management of public spaces. As Mayor, her duty is to the people of Tacoma, and she will continue to defend their constitutional rights, resist federal overreach, and ensure that decisions about safety and accountability remain in the hands of those who call Tacoma home.
The Mayor's unwavering support for her community sends a strong message that Tacoma stands against federal overreach and will protect its residents' rights at all costs.
