Tacoma: Linnaea Jablonski Appointed City's New Human Resources Director

~ On December 9, 2025, the City of Tacoma announced the appointment of Linnaea Jablonski as their new Human Resources Director. The decision was made by Interim City Manager Hyun Kim and confirmed by the City Council.

Jablonski brings with her nearly two decades of experience in the public sector, with a focus on labor negotiations and strategic initiatives. She most recently served as the Human Resources Director for Fairfax County, Virginia, where she oversaw operations for a staff of over 90 professionals and managed an annual payroll of $1.3 billion.

This appointment marks a return to Washington state for Jablonski, who has built an extensive career in public service in the state. She previously served as the Human Resources Director for the City of Olympia, successfully negotiating all eight labor contracts for the city.

Interim City Manager Kim expressed excitement about welcoming Jablonski to their team, stating that her experience in Washington state and leadership skills demonstrated in Fairfax County make her an ideal fit for the role. He also emphasized the importance of supporting city staff and serving the community.

Jablonski's experience in Washington state also includes serving as the Human Resources Director for the Washington State Department of Transportation - Ferries Division, where she oversaw 2,000 employees across 14 labor contracts. She also held a similar role at the Washington State Department of Corrections.

In a statement, Jablonski expressed her enthusiasm for serving Tacoma and returning to Washington state. She highlighted her passion for public service and her desire to work collaboratively with city leadership and staff to create a positive workplace culture and implement strategic initiatives that benefit both employees and the community.

Jablonski holds a Master of Arts in Negotiations & Conflict Resolution from California State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economics & Race Relations from The Evergreen State College.

She is expected to begin her new role on February 9, 2026. The City of Tacoma is looking forward to the contributions and leadership that Jablonski will bring to their Human Resources Department.
