Tacoma: Applications Sought for the City's Events and Recognitions Committee

The 11 ~ The Tacoma City Council is currently on the lookout for two new members to join the City's Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC). The committee, which consists of 11 members, is responsible for advising and taking action on city-hosted events, special events funding, and recognition programs. The council is specifically seeking applicants who are residents of Tacoma.

The CERC is made up of representatives from each of the city's five council districts, as well as at-large positions. These members bring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise to the committee, with a focus on celebrating civic engagement and special observations. They are also passionate about recognizing the valuable contributions of volunteers in the community.

In addition to planning and evaluating events that receive grant funding and services, CERC members also play a crucial role in organizing the City of Destiny Awards and the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The City is committed to promoting equity and anti-racism within its organization, and therefore encourages individuals from all backgrounds to apply for these vacancies. This includes BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees.

Applicants who are appointed to the committee will be required to complete training on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. This training will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
