Springfield police investigate officer-involved shooting

Springfield, Mo. ~ On the evening of September 21, 2025, a disturbance and shots fired were reported at 425 E. Kearney in Springfield, Missouri. The Springfield Police Department immediately responded to the scene at 10:32 p.m.

According to witnesses, a female suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. Officers were able to locate the vehicle at 10:37 p.m. near the intersection of National Avenue and Chestnut Expressway. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to comply and crashed into a curb, disabling the vehicle.

The suspect then exited the vehicle in an aggressive manner with a weapon. Despite verbal commands from officers, she continued to refuse compliance. In response, one officer fired their service weapon, striking the suspect.

Officers quickly provided life-saving measures to the suspect who sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

As per protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place. Additionally, a criminal investigation is also being conducted concurrently and its results will be presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office for review.
