Springfield: Arrest made in 2023 College Street homicide

Springfield, Mo. ~ On March 30, 2025, Quartze "Quartez" Washington, a 19-year-old from Springfield, was arrested in Danville, Illinois for the murder of Chaviz Nguyen on November 14, 2023. The case was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor's office on April 11, 2024 and Washington is now facing charges of first-degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action, first-degree assault, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held without bond.

According to authorities, Arshaun Bradley, a 21-year-old also from Springfield, is still at large and wanted in connection with the same case. Bradley is described as being 5-foot-7 and weighing 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has multiple tattoos on his left arm and is considered armed and dangerous. He is facing the same charges as Washington.

The Springfield Police Department has urged anyone with information on Bradley's whereabouts to contact them at 417-864-1755 or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477) or online at p3tips.com. They have also warned the public not to attempt to apprehend Bradley themselves and to call 911 if he is located.

The Greene County Prosecutor's Office has reminded the public that these charges are only allegations and that Washington and Bradley are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

This arrest comes after a previous press release in November of 2023 where Elysha Bedell, a 19-year-old male from Springfield, along with two juveniles were identified as suspects in Nguyen's murder. Bedell was arrested on November 15th and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and four counts of armed criminal action. The two juveniles were also arrested but their cases were presented to the Greene County Juvenile Office for charges to be filed.

The Springfield Police Department had responded to a report of gunshots being fired from one vehicle at another on November 14, 2023. When they arrived at the scene, they found Nguyen and a female victim with gunshot wounds. The female was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries but Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect vehicle fled and has not been located.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Springfield Police Department or Crime Stoppers. This marks the 17th homicide investigation in Springfield for 2023.
