Spokane Police Officers Involved In A Use Of Deadly Force In The 1800 Block Of West Carlisle Avenue
Rezul News/10728450
~ Spokane, WA - On the night of February 24, 2026, Spokane Police Officers responded to a call in the 1800 block of West Carlisle Avenue. The call was related to a homicide that had occurred two days prior at the Appletree Inn in North Spokane. Detectives had gathered information that led them to believe that a suspect in the homicide was staying at this location.
Due to the high-risk nature of the situation and reports that the suspect was armed, specialty units including Spokane Police SWAT were called in for assistance. Upon arrival, officers identified a male who they believed to be one of the suspects in the homicide. Further information obtained by officers confirmed that they had located the correct individual and that he was armed with a firearm.
In order to continue their investigation, detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant. The Spokane Police Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) attempted multiple times to make contact with the suspect, but he remained uncooperative. Throughout the course of their attempts, officers observed the suspect exiting and re-entering the location with what appeared to be a firearm in his hands.

Despite continued efforts to communicate with him, the suspect refused to comply with commands and instead attempted to flee through neighboring yards while carrying what appeared to be a long gun. In this moment, an officer involved use of deadly force occurred as police encountered the suspect.
Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by officers until medics arrived on scene. However, despite their efforts, the suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Fortunately, no community members or officers were injured during this event.
As per standard protocol, all officers involved will be placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted by an independent agency. The names of these officers will be released at a later date.
The Spokane Independent Investigative Response team (SIIR) will lead this investigation which involves multiple agencies from Eastern Washington including the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Patrol, and the Spokane Police Department. In compliance with WAC 139-12, personnel from the Spokane Police Department will not be involved in this investigation.
All future communications regarding this incident will be handled by the SIIR Team. The case managing agency for this incident is the Spokane County Sheriff's Office. Once the SIIR Team completes their investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review.
The name of the deceased will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner. The Spokane Police Department will also release the names of the officers involved at a later date.
