Spokane: Numerica Skate Ribbon Temporarily Closes Due to Unprecedented Weather

Rezul News/10722703
Josh Morrisey, (509) 723 ~ Spokane, Wash. - The Numerica Skate Ribbon in Riverfront Park has been forced to temporarily close due to extreme weather conditions. According to Josh Morrisey, spokesperson for the City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, the closure is a result of unprecedented heat, high winds, and debris.

Typically, the cooling machinery at the skate ribbon is able to maintain a frozen surface as long as temperatures remain at 45°F or lower. However, the recent prolonged period of unusual weather has made it impossible for the machinery to keep up, leading to an extended closure.

City officials are closely monitoring weather forecasts and anticipate being able to resume ice building by next week. A tentative reopening date of December 20 has been set, but this is subject to change depending on weather conditions. Updates will be provided as necessary.
